12. Bruxelles, J.J. Eeckhoudt, 1822 - 1824, in-4°, 30 x 23 cm, contemporary green quarter leather, smooth gilt back with gilt lettering (some wear). Portrait album containing 51 lithographical portraits made by Van den Burggraaff. The portraits depict contemporary Dutch and Belgian painters and sculptors such as Ms. Baesten (neé Marie Ommeganck), H. Blomaerts, Henri Voordecker, C.F.J. Stevens, M.L. Gelissen, G. van Spaendonck, E.J. Verboeckhoven, J.C. Schotel, P.F. De Noter, J.B. De Noter, F.J. Navez, B.P. Ommeganck. Bound in as title is mounted front cover (margins cut away) of one of the issues in which this publication appeared. Some of the portraits are slightly foxed (most at beginning and end of album). This is the first lithographic portrait album publ. in the Low Countries. (Brussels 1822). It appeared in 10 issues of each 6 portraits. A complete album should have a separate title and a portrait frontispiece of the painter Odevaere. Our copy lacks 9 portraits, the title and the frontispiece. Van der Marck (Romantische Boekillustratie in België) wrote (pp.87-88) that this collection is in the first place interesting because it depicts very good true to life portraits of nearly forgotten (in 1956) artists. Surely many of the portraits cannot be found elsewhere.
