" Mounted on board, photosize 28,5 x 22,5 cm. Nicaise de Keyzer became director of the Antwerp Academy in 1855. His studio can be identified in these pictures from the sketches which are on display of the mural paintings he made to decorate the entrance hall of the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He worked on them from 1860-1872 and they are considered to be his main work. The photographs show the interior of the studio of an important 19th century painter of the romantic school decorated with a collection of mediaeval armour and arms, an urn, renaissance furniture etc. (See H. Hymans; De Keyzer 1813-1913) The photographs are rubberstamped in the margin; G. Hermans, Phot. 98, R. Dambrugge Anvers. (Photographs slightly faded, boards dusty and with brittle margins)."
