Original printed wrapper, sewn in the Eastern way with silk threads. Bookblock is in good shape but the original wrapper is severely damaged with some loss of paper ( but no loss of text) due to the poor quality of the paper wrapper. The book is protected with a transparent acid-free sleeve and kept in a purposely made cloth box. First edition of this novel printed in Beijing which relates the Siberian adventures of Admiral Kolchak and the allied counter-revolutionary efforts starting at Vladivostock and hoping to reach Moscow. The author was the plenipotentiary minister of France in China from 1908 onwards. He witnessed the collapse of the empire and also the Allied efforts to fight the Russian communists in Siberia. His secretary at the French Legation was the famous writer and Nobel prize laureate Saint-John Perse (Alexis Leger). Text in French. Livre en français. Very rare, only 5 entries in the OCLC catalogue.
