Basel, Henric Petrina 1575. Small folio 30 x 20 cm, 1bl.+64+1294+1bl. pp., Damascenus work in greek and latin parallel text, engraved printer's mark on the title page and at the end, engraved initials. Full calf contemporary blind stamped binding, later rebacked back with 6 raised bands. Light waer stains at the last pages. The author, with many fields of interest, wrote several works on the Christiang faith, was a strond defender of the ikons and was condidered as the last of the Fathers of the Eastern church. Ioannis Cassianus was a monk and theologian with a Scythian or Gallic origin. His ideas for salvation through prayer, ascetisism and free will and not so much on predestination and God's grace were studied by Eastern and Western church which both ranked him as a saint.
