‎L'ouvrage est en réalité une "justification de l'attitude du Sénat en 1814. Cornet a églement écrit une notice historique sur le coup d'Etat de Brumaire où il joua un rôle important comme président du conseil des Anciens" (Tulard, 177). "Devenu sénateur sous l'Empire, il obtint, grâce à sa prudence et à son opportunisme, la pairie qu'il conserva sous la Monarchie de Juillet et jusqu'à sa mort" (Bertier 273). Etat très satisfaisant (couv. un peu frottée, qq. rouss., bon exemplaire par ailleurs).‎
