The Compagnie de Fives-Lille was an important construction company originally founded already in 1861 ( Ateliers de construction mécanique de Fives) . There is still a company active under the name FIVES , descending from the 1861 company. In their Fives works they built over 2000 locomotives ( 20 are shown in the album). They built also e.g. the Alexandre III bridge in Paris ; the large hall of the Gare d'Orsay in Paris ( now the 19th c. Art Museum). Further in the album are documented tramway equipment in Avignon, Douai , Brides-Les-Bains (Savoye) , Bois de Boulogne... The last three pictures are devoted to the lift system in the ''Tower of 300 M. '' ( Eiffel tower). This album gives an impressive picture of the French contribution to railroad and tramway equipment at the end of the 19th century.."
