COLLARD Auguste Hippolyte ( 1812 - 1887 ) - Atelier Central de Photographie :
Reference : 53510
" Paris, Atelier Central de Photographie, s.d. ( ca. 1865), 13 original photographs (200 x 305 mm), mounted on stiff board, with the company's blindstamp in the margin. The photographs depict interpretation engravings of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican : a general view of the ceiling and 12 detailed views of the paintings in between the windows. In E.A. McCauley's study on Collard ( Industrial Madness, commercial photography in Paris 1848 - 1871 - pp 221) the author mentions a contract made out by Collard for reproductive photography of Italian art based on engravings by Forster. Probably these photographs are derived from this contract. Also bound in in the album : Logia di Rafaele nel Vaticano, 9 large similar photographs, one with a blind stamp in the margin : ''Photographie LAMPUÉ rue Saint Jacques Paris''; and another 10 leaves containing each 4 original photographs ( postcard format) of groteskes ( unsigned. The plateds bound in a red half morocco contemporary binding, boards covered with marbled paper, (paper at back cover partly gone, some signs of use at binding, on the whole still a good binding. Interior fine notwithstanding some sparse faint marginal stains. Interesting early album with reproductive photography of Italian art in the Vatican."
