‎Paris, Melchior Tavernier, Pierre Mariette et al., 1636-78. Folio. (45 x 32,5 cm.). Bound in a 19th Century hcalf with title on spine in gilt lettering: ""N. Sanson - Atlas - 1641"". Maps varying sizes Ca. (38-43 cm.) x (50-53 cm.). With 67 fine engraved maps, 40 by N. Sanson and G. Sanson, 8 by De la Rue, 7 by Duval, 10 by Tavernier (done by Sanson), 2 by Philippus Briet (Chez Pierre Mariette, Henri le Roy fecit, and Michel van Lochom). The first 22 fully coloured !!, the last 45 outline coloured. Map 42-45 by Tavernier with 2 small inkspots on verso which are seen in the middle of the maps in one case creating a small whole in the image. The last map with 2 small repairs in upper margin, not affecting image. Otherwise the maps are clean and fine, all in contemporary handcolouring.‎

‎This is a fine composite atlas by the engravers of the French 17th century school. Most of the 67 maps are by Nicolas Sanson and his son Guillaume Sanson (40 + 10, as the Tavernier-maps are done by Sanson).Nicolas Sanson (1600-1667) is generally thought of as the father of the 17th century school of map-making, maps which are known for their charm and elegance in the fine lettering and delicate engraving. Sanson published an atlas of France, world atlasses and another atlas with the title ""Cartes Générales de toutes les Parties du Monde (1658), containing 82 maps. After his death, the firm was run by his sons Guillaume and Adrian. After 1670 the firm's map-making material was taken over by Herbert Jaillot. Pierre Duval (1618-1683), here represented with 7 maps, was geographer to the King of France and pupil of Sanson.Content: 1. Text in French and German. Livre en français et allemand. Sumptuous publication to promote the film productions of 20th century Fox for the year 1942. The album describes 35 films. The left hand page gives the title and a short description with names of actors and producer. The right hand page is a photomontage of the actors and some film scenes. This publication '' L'Année Triomphale'' is a continuation of the pre-war Paris edition which for obvious reasons is transfered here to Geneva. ‎First edition of a fundamental work in Meteorology in which Saussure describes how to construct a hygrometer from human hair that can measure the relative humidity, and discussing the principles behind it. Cuvier regarded this book as one of the greatest contributions to science of the eighteenth century.""A milestone work in chemistry, physics, and meteorology, which established hygrometry as an exact science. Primarely a geologist who explored and published on the Alps, Saussure (1740-1788) was the first to prove that air expands and becomes less dense the more humidity it contains. A Popular, at Mathematical, a Mechanical, and a Philosophical Treatise. Both comprehensive and reliable, the work became probably the most influential optical textbook of the eighteenth century. It was also published in Dutch in 1753, in German in 1755, and in two different French translations in 1767, In 1778 an abridged version was published in English. The leaves are gathered in quires and still sewed together. The quires were removed from a binding. The leaves are clean and stainless , except for a waterstain at the lower margin which varies in size between 20 x 50 mm and 15 x 30 mm, not all leaves are affected. The dustsoiled outer leaves have not been counted in..‎

‎" Wormerveer & Zaandijk, Oude Blauwmill , paper size is 316 x 206 mm, 138 leaves, manufactured in the late 18th - early 19th century , ( ca. 1800), watermark ; Pro Patria, with the manufacturar's intitials D & C Blauw , similar to Churchill Nr. 82. The leaves are bound in cloth , with green silk ties. The leaves are clean and stainless . All pages contain a margin line drawn in red ink. The first 13 leaves have a double line in the middle and a small (alphabet) cut out in the outer margin. Fine item, in a contemporary cloth binding, ready for use as a ledger, but here unused. The leaves are bound in a contemporary vellum binding. As vellum cover was used a leaf of an earlier manuscript antiphonarium. The book contains 2 x 30 pages ( not counted as blank leaves) of 18th and 19th c. manuscript bookkeeping and/or notary annotations. The blank leaves are clean and stainless .The written leaves, at both sides of the book, have not been counted in. Paper size is 280 x 208 mm, ca. 144 unnumbered blank leaves, handmade in the early 19th century ( ca. 1820 -1830), watermark ; a small upright dragon with the capital ''F'' and the name '' fenerol frere''. The leaves are bound in a contemporary full leather, with two linen ties. The edges are painted yellow. Binding a bit rubbed, but interior very clean and allmost stainless ( some of the usual faint stains at a few pages ). The album was obviously sold by a French stationery shop and was never used."‎

Watermark ; Pro Patria similar to Churchill Nr. 130-153, but from a design not corresponding with any of these numbers. With the name ''J Vatelde - (or) J. Villelden - (or) J. Vahlagen ? Stamps on foot of first title-page. Halftitel, title-pages in red/black with engraved vignettes. (2),2 engraved leafs with dedications, 14"(2),8 pp. and 25 + 24 large double-page or triple-page folded engraved plates + 6 additional plates (only sometimes present). With a total of 55 plates. On thick, heavy paper, wide-margined and internally fine and clean.‎

""Tileman van der Horst and Jan Schenk produced the Theatrum Machinarium Univesale, one of the most celebrated works on the construction of all those elements so necessary to keeping life dry in Amsterdam (the place of the book’s publication). ‎ #(French) , paper size is 260 x 190 mm, ca. 140 leaves, manufactured in the late 17th century , Watermark a bell (60 x 60 mm) with the letters A.C. Paper blank with some sparse brown spots at some leaves. 12 leaves have been written by the first owner (financial transactions). The leaves are bound in full supple vellum, with leather ties. Edges are sprinkled. The upper cover bears the inscription '' Livre de Compte pour Illustre Dame Marquise de Lullin à Chambéry (France Savoie). Nicely preserved album with virgin leaves of handmade paper. A description in French (en français) can be found under the author's name LULLIN with details of the contents of the 12 written leaves.‎
