‎First edition. Issued after the authors death 1853. The work is one of the most importent studies of the Tungusic languages, the material collected on Castrén last travels in Siberia. The Tonguses is a widespread north Asiatic people, The Tung-hu of the Chinese and Tungus in Russian. The Tungus domain stretches from longitude 60 degr. east to the Pacific ocean and from the Arctic to the Chinese frontier.‎
