Bound in 19th c. red half roan, two label on spine, Marbled edges. Ex-library with stamps on title and cancellation stamp on first fly leaf. (Belgian War Ministry). Binding with some wear but still a good copy. Rare German translation of Carnot's work ''Réflexions sur la Métaphysique du Calcul Infinitésimal'' which appeared in 1797. This German translation carries an important introduction by the translator Hauff, a mathematician who ended his career as professor at the Flemish university of Ghendt. A first English translation of the Carnot text was published in Oxford as late as 1832 ( by W.B.Browell).
