Keighley, (England), Privately printed for the Cabinet by S. Billows, 16 High Street., 1887, in-8vo, 89 p., with 2 orig. letters of the author, ex libris Peter E. Obergfell, Original blue cloth, lettered in gilt to upper cover, chocolate colour endpapers. A fine copy.
An excellentcopy, signed and inscribed by the author to title, with his annotatins in pen to the first leaf of text and two letters from him to „Gray“ loosely inserted.First edition. An amusing narrative, written in mock high style, that recounts the experiences of the author and its friends on what doubtless proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable visit to Switzerland, Along with amusing anecdotes of their doings in the towns of Zurich, Zermatt, Lausanne and elswhere, Brigg (whose annotations at the front of the book identify his fellow-travellers) also describes their ascents of the Aletsch and Findelen glaciers and of the Breithorn with relish. An encomium to the Matterhorn, the delights of lake swimming, the euphoria of climbing and the joys of smoking at the end of a day’s travelling are just some of the episodes in the quirky book published, unusually in Keighley. Provenance: From the collection of Eugene P. Meckly, author of the bibliography ,Mont Blanc’: The Early Years. Image disp.
