‎First Edition of this fascinating and compelling survey of the architecture of death during the époque of Beaux Arts design. Raoul Brandon (1878-1941) was an esteemed architect and professor whose works included the main post office in his native Chartres and a department store and the stock exchange in Cairo. This portfolio covers a broad range of contemporary tombs, monuments, sarcophaguses, funerary sculptures, etc., printed in suitably muted colors and including many details and sections. Browsing through these very good plates offers the same sort of macabre pleasure as strolling through one of the magnificent cemeteries of Paris. The text includes a title-page; 27 pages of descriptive text, often greatly detailed; a plate list; and two pages of publisher's ads. Very scarce: no copies at auction since 1975, or currently online. OCLC locates one copy ‎
