Première édition, bel exemplaire, curiosité de notre exemplaire la carte dépl. ‘La descente du Côté du midi des Alpes...’, se trouve en 2 exemplaires (dans le tome 1 & 3).Fine copy of Bourrit's three volume edition of the descriptions of his travels into the Alps and its glaciers.The artist and explorer - since 1768 cantor of the Geneva cathedral - rejoined here his 'Description des Alpes Pennines et Rhétiennes' of 1781with the 'Nouvelle description des glacières et glaciers de Savoye', which has nothing to do with his first publication of 1773, the 'Description des glacières, glaciers et amas de glaces du Duché de Savoye'. A complete copy with all engravings by the French engraver Rose Angélique Moitte after Bourrit's drawings, including the folding map (bound in twice), etched after Bourrit. Bourrit’s relation to the glaciers & MONT-BLANC.Almost unknown Dutch translationExtremly rare first and only Dutch edition of Bourrit’s ‘Description des glacières, glaciers et amas de glace du Duché de Savoye’. Important as being one of the first records in the Dutch language describing the travel towards Chamonix and the descriptions of several excursions in the Mont-Blanc area. The work includes the voyage of M. De Luc ‘Na de Ys-bedding van Büet’ ’ and Bourrits famous ‘Beschrijving der Vertooningen van den Berg Blanc’ (Description du Mont-Blanc). The 3 views represents ‘Chamonix, Montanvert & Bossons all engraved by C. Bogerts in 1777. Bourrit's publications were leading the way to the more scientific investigations towards the glaciers and glaciology as a science, they also were the starting point of alpine tourism. Edition originale. Ouvrage rare de l'un des pionniers de l'alpinisme, principalement sur le Mont-Blanc et ses environs ainsi que sur celles du Mont Rose et du Valais, illustré de 4 planches gravées d'après les dessins de Marc Bourrit, voyageur et naturaliste genevois, surnommé l'historiographe des Alpes par Spallanzani. L'ouvrage comprend à la fin des ‘Instructions générales sur la manière de voyager aux glaciers’.
