" Antverpiae ( Antwerpen ) , typis Fr. Canisius, 1650, small in-4°, (204 mm ), (14) nn pp (including a frontispiece portrait ; title with engraved vignet ) + 184 pp. (complete). Bound in 19th c. richly gilt decorated red chagrin. all edges gilt. The previous 19th c. owner: Charles Lhomme of Liessies enriched the copy with another portrait of Blosius ( a photo-engraving after Galle) and several small albumine prints of the abbey of Liesses. Louis Blosius (1506 - 1566) was the abbott of the Benedictine abbey of Liesses (Northern France, nearly completely demolished after the Revolution). He was very influential and a personal friend of Charles V (Charles Quint). The Lhomme family acquired the abbey after 1791 and gradually destroyed most of its buildings. Charles had this copy bound around 1890. Loosely inserted is a three page letter (with the printed letter head of Ch. Lhomme) IThe letter describes, in French, the life of Liesses' most famous abbott: Blosius. Very fine copy. On handling this copy one can not fail to feel the nostalgia which inspired the present owner of the abbey to enrich the book with pictures and a letter; nearly 100 years after the abbey was destructed."
