(1764)
Paris, Pierre Fr. Didot le jeune, 1764. [[ii, blank], xvi, 151, [iii, blank] pp. Small 8vo (10,5 x 17 cm.). Contemporary full marbled calf, spine with 5 raised bands, in compartments gilt decorated, red morocco title label; marbled end-papers (top of spine slightly damaged; front joint a little worn; corners slightly bumped, but an attractive binding).
The rare first French edition. In 1761 Bilguer, the famous army surgeon, published his thesis "Diss. med.-chir. de Membrorum amputatione", a small treatise which can be considered as the foundation of reconstructive surgery. This French translation is much expanded with numerous notes by Tissot, and was later translated into Ducht, English, German and Italian.-- (some scattered light foxing).
