15. Bologna, Augusto & Guido Ariatti, Dicembre 1928, in-folio album, format oblong, 29 x 36 cm, 40 pp with 38 original photographs , photo size 145 x 230 mm. Album cover in brown letter with on the front cover a large figure of a female spinner holding a bobbin. The pictures have manuscript captions (in Italian) written in white ink on the dark brown album leaves. Very nicely preserved. According a note on the tile page the album was presented in 1928 to the owners of the '' Société de Filature et Tissage - Ligugé'', doubtless an important customer of the hemp growers to make yarn from the hemp fibers. This company ( la filature de Ligugé) was for over 100 years the most important industrial plant in the French ''département de la Vienne''. It stopped its activities in 1976. Its building are now part of the cultural heritage. The photographs show the sowing , harvesting , transport, retting etc. of the hemp. All transport with ox carts on wooden wheels which can't be too different from those used in Roman Times. Very nicely preserved and interesting photographic documentary on the cultivation of hemp ( canapa in Italian, chanvre en français , hennep in het Nederlands ) in the Italian region of Emilia Romagna in the first quarter of the 20th century.
