Full page miniature painting on vellum. Vellum size 225 x 334 mm. Miniature size 210 x 260 mm.
" Miniature painting representing the Annunciation.: angel Gabriel on the left side; Mary opposite. With the white dove . Gabriel holding a stick with a banner '' Ave [ ] gracia plena dom[inus[ tecum''. The miniature has a painted frame , width 25 mm, consisting of an inner and an outer gilt section, in the middle a black painted section. (the ''gilt'' sections are heightened with muschel gold). A curious detail of the frame is a painted pendant in the form of a cross or sword hilt (45 mm long) extending from the centre of the lower end of the frame. Based upon the interpretation of the style of a pendant miniature (representing Saint-Martin) and without any further arguments we tend to date this painting as from the 16th c. probably originating from France or the Southern Netherlands; Painted on thick vellum.. Vellum with some ondulations, Some abrasions of the miniature (mainly in the lower part of the picture and some at the painted frame). We acquired this miniature painting together with a pendant of Saint-Martin. Saint-Martin is described as another item (see under Saint-Martin. Price for the two items: 3000,00 Euro.
