‎Studierte nach erstem Musikunterricht durch den Vater zunächst Theologie und Rechtswissenschaft. Reiche Anregung fand er im Umgang mit Lortzing, Mendelssohn und Schumann. Von 1841 bis 1844 Chefdirigent am Zürcher "Actientheater". Ab 1844 widmete er sich dem aufstrebenden Zürcher Chor- und Gesangswesen. In dieser Zeit gepannte Beziehung zu Richard Wagner. Später in Braunschweig tätig. – Späterer Abzug.‎
