Buckfast, Devon Buckfast Abbey 1923
First edition. A very nice copy of this Benedictine Quarterly Journal. Full of period Catholic adverts, articles, book reviews and poetry. Front illustration of Buckfast Abbey in 1829. A decent copy. The paper covers are a little darkened and marked. The yapped edges are slightly nicked and have a few small closed tears. Internally clean and tidy throughout. [viii], 141-208., [vi] pp.
2. High Wycombe, Wycombe Abbey School, s.d. (ca. 1950 ?), small oblong in-8° photoalbum, 14 x 19 cm, with 25 original photographs (picture size 120 x 168 mm), kept in a publisher's ringbinding with black cloth covers, gilt coat of arms on front cover, the photographs are perforated in the blank margin to fit in the ringbinding. The pictures illustrate the buildings, interiors, garden etc of this famous independent girls boarding school situated in High Wycombe (Buckinghamshire). The fine building is the most important still existing work of James Wyatt, who created the gothic ecclesiastical style. His main work, Fonthill Abbey, is now demolished.

Frontis illustration of the Bishop of Plymouth (Bishop Barrett) Articles include a translation of the original document of "The Surrender of Buckfast Abbey". There is also a photograph of detail from the Buckfast choir stalls tipped in. To the rear is an attractive colour illustrated folding advert for a clerical outfitters in Exeter. A decent copy. The paper covers are a little faded to the edges. The yapped edges are slightly bruised. Internally clean and tidy throughout. 111-162., [xi] pp.

Two volumes. Hardback in dust wrapper. The front of the wrapper of Volume 1 has been sliced in half (quite neatly!) now held in removable plastic. Apart from this flaw, the wrappers are clean and tidy. Books are bound in burgundy laminated cloth. The front of Volume 1 has a thin scratch (corresponding to the wrapper damage). Volume 1 - contains the World, Europe and Africa. 347 works are catalogued, with 44 plates and illustrations. Volume 2 - contains Asia, Oceania, Antarctica & America. Contains 381 works catalogued and 46 plates and illustrations. xiv, 1-300., xiv, 301-676. pp. 320 by 240 mm (12œ by 9œ inches).

London, Sotheby's, in-4° (two sizes), 11 parts, indexed, illustrated, with result lists, orig. cased bindings. Complete set of the illustrated catalogue of theAbbey collection which was one of the finest libraries to be auctioned in London in the '60-'70s. It was very strong in exceptional bindings (Part I-IV contain 147 plates of bindings h.t.) and mediaeval manuscripts. Major Abbey owned almost all the manuscripts of the former Hornby collection (Part 8 & 9 comprise 68 manuscripts of this collection).

Lovanii ( Leuven), Ioannes Masius, Petrus Faber , 1584, in-8°, (16)nn pp + 397 pp + (19) nn pp (complete). Bound in full overlapping vellum, with silk ties. The front cover contains a supra-libro : ''Reveren[do] Patri D[omino] Fran[cisco] Vlierden Abb[ati] Par[censi] + ''. On the back cover : ''Anno Domini 1584''. Both central decoration within a double gilt fillet. Inscribed on the first fly leaf : ''Ex dono authoris''. On the title page a small modern circular ex-libris stamp. Jan De Lens (Beloeil 1541 - Louvain 1593) became theology professor at Louvain university after occupying the same fuction at Parc Abbey. He donated this copy to the abbott of Parc abbey Franciscus van Vlierden ( Antwerpen 1546 - Louvain 1601) at the end of 1584 (privilege is dated 7 sept. 1584). Van Vierden received the abbott ordination on 2 may 1583. A beautiful and extremely rare testimony of personal relations in the Louvain university community at the end of the tumultuous 16th. c. The personal and dated binding is exceptionally well preserved, with even the silk ties in good order.
