This edition renders the text of the Ghent manuscript in its final corrected form. The apparatus criticus contains the variant readings of the other early manuscripts. The great novelty is the apparatus correctionum: here all corrections in the Ghent manuscript are painstakingly noted with their extent, the technique used, the identification of the corrector and whenever possible, the text of the original, deleted version. The apparatus fontium, finally, identifies all of Hildegard's sources. The extensive introduction contains original studies by Peter Dronke (who also compiled the apparatus fontium) on the place of the LDO in the work of Hildegard, its originality, meaning and structure. Albert Derolez, who established the text and who is the author of the two other apparatuses provides a detailed analysis of the manuscripts, with special focus on the Ghent codex and its genesis and explains the edition technique adopted. Languages: Latin.
