---- EDITION ORIGINALE de la THESE de doctoral de G. ANDRAL présentée à la Faculté de médecine de Paris le 14 Juin 1821 ---- TRES RARE ---- "ANDRAL received his medical degree at Paris in 1821 and three years later qualified as professor agrégé on the Faculté de Médecine. In 1828 he became professor of hygiene and in 1839 succeeded Broussais as chair of general pathology and therapeutics, a position he held with great success for the next twenty-seven years. Andral was a clear, methodic, analytic spirit who opposed all scholastic eccentricity and fanaticism, edited the works of Laennec, joined hands with Luis in his propaganda against blood-letting, favored cold baths in typhoid and other fevers and is to be especially remembered as the first to urge a chemical examination of the blood in morbid condition. He is the founder of the science of hematology and is credited with the integration of that science into clinical and investigative medicine". (cf. Heirs of Hippocrates N° 1580 & 1581) - Garrison History of medicine p. 415 - cf.
