This french physicist from PAU was teaching at La Rochelle, Bordeaux and the Collège Clermont in Paris. He was in constant communication with major scientific figures of the time,such as LEIBNIZ, NEWTON and HUYGENS. As well asinfuencing NEWTON's theory of color, he "intervened in the debate on the ideas of NEWTON and of HUYGENS at certain decisive moments".
