---- EDITION ORIGINALE ---- EXEMPLAIRE AYANT APPARTENU au Professeur KOLLIKER avec une dédicace à ce dernier par un de ses amis ainsi libellée : "To Professor Albert KOLLIKER with kindest regards from his friend - London 13th Sept 1855" - suit la signature indéchiffrable de cet ami ---- BON EXEMPLAIRE GRAND DE MARGE ---- GARRISON N° 307 : "Trembley discovered the hydra and was the first to observe in it asexual reproduction, regeneration and photosensitivity in an animal without eyes. His experiments were of great importance in the study of regeneration of lost parts. He was the first to make permanent grafts and to witness cell-division" ---- "It is noteworthy that Trembley tried on hydra nearly every possible experiment in regeneration and grafting that was likely to give interesting results. He was exploring territory that was almost entirely unknown ; yet the planning of his work was so complete, and its execution so thorough, that he might almost have been performing routine experiments on a system established by the long experimence of others... Trembley was persued by Réaumur to bring together the results of his work on the hydra in a book. The result was a beautifully produced volume entitle Mémoires pour servir à l'histoire d'un genre de polypes d'eau douce, à bras en forme de cornes (1744), with very fine illustrations by Pieter Lyonet".
