---- PREMIERE EDITION FRANCAISE ---- BEL EXEMPLAIRE AUX ARMES ---- "First french edition of Bergman's work on mineral classification based on chemical composition. In this work the author used some of his reformed nomenclature. MONGEZ added extensive notes regarding each substance, citing works of other chemists and mineralogists. The translation was based on the German of Johann Jacob Ferber (1743-1790) who had brought the work up to date". (Cole N° 110) ---- "Following Linnaeus, BERGMAN divided inorganic substances into classes, genera and species ; and, as Linnaeus had done for plants and animals, he defined each clss and genus by one word and each species by two. There were four classes : salts (including acids and alkalies as well as neutral salts), earths, metals and phlogistic materials" (DSB II p. 7) ---- Partington III pp. 179/199 - DSB II pp. 4/8**7919.ARB4
