He was recommended for the latter post by Leibniz, with whom he had established a correspondence and whose philosophical ideas, although somewhat modified and vulgarized, subsequently became the cornestone of his own philosophical writings. At Halle, Wolff lectured on mathematics and algebra, building and fortification, as well as experimental and theoretical physics... Wolff was essentially a popularizer and (to some extend inspired by Leibniz) sought to effect a formal synthesis between Scholasticism, the new mathematical methods and more recent scientific conceptions.
