---- BEL EXEMPLAIRE GRAND DE MARGES ---- Seconde édition AUGMENTEE de QUATRE MEMOIRES ORIGINAUX AINSI que DE NOMBREUSES LETTRES ET MANUSCRITS INCONNUS lors de la parution de la première édition des oeuvres ---- Le tome premier renferme les mémoires publiés du vivant de l'auteur, le tome second ses mémoires posthumes ---- "Abel provided the first solution in the history of mathematics of an integral equation and published a paper demonstrating that a radical expression to represent a solution to fifth or higher-degree equations was impossible. In his "Mémoire sur une propriété générale d'une classe très-étendue de fonctions transcendantes", which dealt with the sum of the integrals of a given algebraic function, he presented the theorem that any such sum can be expressed as a fixed number of these integrals with integration arguments that are algebraic functions of the original arguments. Abel transformed the theory of elliptic integrals by introducing elliptic functions with its important implications for algebraic number theory. He also provided the first stringent proof of the binomial theorem" ---- Honeyman N° 2 - DSB I**4/K1

New edition of the complete works by the Norwegian genious in mathematics, particularly on elliptic integrals. “All of Abel's works carry the imprint of an ingenuity and force of thought which is unusual and sometimes amazing, even if the youth of the author is not taken into consideration. One may say that he was able to penetarte all obstacles down to the very foundations of the problems, with a force which appeared irrisistable ...” (Crelle's extensive eulogy of Abel, who died of tbc at the age of 28).Joint an appendice of 12 p.: Niels Hendrik Abel, In Memoriam. p. 223-233, with an article by S.
