‎Charmant carnet de bal 19ème en nacre. Le carnet de bal fait son apparition dans les bals publics vers 1820. Il sert d'aide-mémoire à la danseuse qui y inscrit l'ordre des danses qui sont au programme de la soirée. En regard de chaque danse, elle inscrit le nom du partenaire qui s'est proposé (ou celui qu'elle a sollicité). Rapidement, son usage s'étend également aux hommes. Le présent carnet, finement ouvragé, présente les différentes dances inscrites à l'encre brune en haut des feuillets: Polkas, Valses et des traces de noms au crayon. Bel objet, parfaitement conservé. 1 vol. 18vo (62 x 42 mm.) of 5 bone sheets grooved for writing (traces of pencil). Mother-of-pearl binding held by a silver rivet, top cover decorated with an engraved silver medallion, silver mechanical pencil with case and bound by a chain with holding ring. Charming 19th century mother-of-pearl ball book. The ball book appeared in the public balls around 1820. It serves as a reminder for the dancer who writes down the order of the dances that are on the program for the evening. Next to each dance, she wrote the name of the partner who had offered to dance (or the one she had asked for). Soon, its use was extended to men as well. The present notebook, finely worked, presents the different dances inscribed in brown ink at the top of the sheets: Polkas, Valses and traces of names in pencil. Beautiful object, perfectly preserved.‎
