Reference : 17925

(Reliure ancienne.) //// First edition. These 'Flores' by Ulrich von Hutten, dedicated to Sallustus and Quintus Curtius, were posthumously published. They offer a "repertory of examples to imitate from the best Latinity, both in Sallustus and in Quintus-Curcis. Hutten thus follows the tradition inaugurated by Erasmus, whom he knew personally, and integrates almost all the Annotationes of his predecessor in his Flores. His approach nevertheless has a more pronounced anthological dimension and covers a much larger part of Quintus Curtius' text. If the Flores intend first of all to provide a repertory of examples to those who are interested in Latin eloquence, they also deliver a rich study of the language and the writing processes of Quinte-Curce". (Lucie Claire, Commenter Quinte-Curce au XVIe siècle : premières observations). The humanist Ulrich von Hutten (1488-1523), a great admirer of Luther, was considered the most influential propagandist of the Reformation in the Holy Roman Empire. He unsuccessfully attempted to convince Erasmus to join the Reformation. VD16 : ZV 13685. USTC 617647 quotes 5 copies, all in Germany.
