Bound in publisher's brown cloth, Lettering in Black on front cover and spine. Tiny marginal tear in the folding map but still a very handsome copy. One of the first important studies on the history and actual situation of Central Africa (mainly the Congo Free State). This state which became in 1908 ''the Belgian Congo'' and later the Republic of Zaire. Was a private owned state, acquired in1885 by king Leopold II of Belgium. In 1908 he ceded the country to the kingdom of Belgium. This publication contains one of the first thrustworthy maps of the interior of the country. The author was a reknown geographer and editor in chief of the periodical ''Le Mouvement Géographique'' which was subsidised by Leopold II.

Nice copy allthough two leaves are partly loose in the binding. Text in French. Original first edition in hardback. Very early study on the independant state of the Congo by Wauters . At the time of publication he was editor in chief of the ''Mouvement Géographique ''.
