Nocret's 'Royal Family in Olympus', completed in 1670, was commissioned by Louis XIV's brother, Monsieur Philippe, Duke of Orleans, as part of a larger decoration scheme for his Château at Saint-Cloud. Nocret was a history painter and portraitist whose other projects for the Royal Family included the decoration of the Queen's apartments at the Tuileries with Charles Le Brun. Looking at Nocret's life between Lorraine, Rome, Lisbon and Paris, the present monograph also contains a complete catalogue of Nocret's known works, listing over 50 paintings and drawings.
