Tirage limité à 41 exemplaires, celui-ci un des 30 sur Rives BFK. Grand admirateur du Greco, Antoni Clavé exécute à partir de 1964 de nombreux tableaux et eaux fortes en son hommage ainsi que cette série de lithographies. Clavé s'inspire principalement du célèbre tableau " Le Gentilhomme à la main sur la poitrine " exposé au Prado. " Ce qui m'intéressait, c'était ce personnage avec la main sur la poitrine que j'avais vu au Prado, j'en avais fait tout jeune une copie d'après une reproduction. Ce n'est pas le Greco lui-même que j'ai peint, c'est le fantôme de ce tableau-là. J'en ai fait une série de peintures, des gouaches, des eaux-fortes et treize lithos éditées dans un album". Clavé interprète, transforme en traces, le visage échappe au spectateur instaurant le mystère et renvoyant le regard sur la main. Rives paper, the full sheets printed to the edges. Done by Clavé as a tribute to El Greco to celebrate the 350 anniversary of his death. I remember that Clavé told us how moved he was by the work of El Greco,and particularly by the power of Nobleman with a Hand on his Chest. On the occasion of the publication of an album about Clavé's reinterpretation of El Greco, we travelled with him to Toledo and followed him on visits to all the museums where El Greco's work was on display. On seeing the great masterpieces, Clavé was just as awed as any other museum visitor. In 1963 he undertook a series of large canvases, as well as lithographs and etchings, on the theme of Tribute to Domenikos Theotokopoulos. In 1965, Clavé moved to the south of France. His tapisseries-assemblages were presented at the Sala Gaspar in Barcelona at the same time as Tribute to Domenikos Theotokopoulos. ("Clavé solitario y azul" by Josep Casamartina).‎
