‎Maria Anna Sofia Cecilia Kalogeropoulos, better known among her artists name Maria Callas : New York 2 december 1923- 16 september 1977, This American-Greek soprano especially excelled in the major roles of nineteenth-century Italian operas, especially those of Vincenzo Bellini and Giuseppe Verdi. The strength of Callas' voice lies in the dramatic presentation; she sang her parts in an extremely compelling manner and with full conviction, the impeccability of the technique clearly taking second place to the emotional impact on the listener. Her qualities were also seen in the combination of a very good stage actress and an extraordinary opera singer. Her singing technique was especially excellent in her prime, although singing teachers have always had certain points of criticism. In addition, Maria Callas' voice had a rather unique timbre, making her immediately recognizable in every recording. Callas happened a few times what is a nightmare for every opera singer, namely having to cut short a performance for physical reasons. The first time this took place on January 2, 1952 in Rome. In 1965 the same thing happened to her in Paris ‎
