Elle fut publiée pour célébrer la victoire de la Somme. Couvertures en papier d'origine gris pâle. Propre et bien rangée, bien qu'un peu assombrie. Renforcées à la tête et à la queue du dos. A l'intérieur, l'ouvrage est propre et bien rangé, avec seulement un peu d'assombrissement. Un bel exemplaire. 230 pages. 165 x 130 mm
A very nice copy of this numbered edition of poems of Flanders and Brabant with Dufy's illustrations. It was published to celebrate the victory at the Somme. Pale grey original paper covers. Clean and tidy if a little darkened. Reinforced to the head and tail of the spine. Internally clean and tidy throughout with a touch of darkening only. A nice copy. 230 pages. 165 by 130mm (6œ by 5 inches). .

Description en 1748 des « Pays de la Généralité dont le Brabant Hollandais, les Pays d'Outre-Meuse Hollandais et la Flandre Hollandaise contenant un détail précis de la distribution de ces pays, de leur situation, climat, gouvernement, forces, nombre et moeurs des habitants etc. », suite à la prise de Berg-op-Zoom le 18 septembre 1747 et Maastricht le 7 mai 1748 par l'Armée du Roi Louis XV, l’un des derniers épisodes de la guerre de Succession d'Autriche au cours duquel une partie de l'armée française du maréchal de Saxe, commandée par le Lieutenant-général de Lowendal pénètra dans les Provinces-Unies. Docteur en droit, physicien, naturaliste et traducteur, Gottfried Sellius né à Dantzig en 1704, s'installa à Paris en 1741 et mourut le 25 juin 1767 à Charenton. Dit boek presenteert de resultaten van een nieuw historisch en economisch onderzoek naar het samenspel van geografische kenmerken, de ontwikkeling van bevolking en infrastructuur, ondernemerschap en sociale bewegingen, die de sociale en economische ontwikkeling van de provincie bepaald hebben. Vlaams-Brabant was en is een groene provincie. De landbouw bepaalde het landschap, het verstedelijkingsproces, de industrialisatie en misschien zelfs de mentaliteit. In de zee van groen vormden de steden kleine industri le eilanden, waar landbouwproducten bewerkt werden. De geuren van mout en suiker hangen reeds meer dan tweehonderd jaar over deze steden. De grijze steenwegen, blauwe kanalen en roestbruine spoorwegen vormden de hefboom voor de economische ontwikkeling van Vlaams-Brabant. De centrale ligging van de provincie heeft ook een belangrijke rol gespeeld in de omschakeling van een industrie- naar een diensteneconomie. Tegelijkertijd vormt de verkeersknoop een steeds nijpender probleem. Ondanks de goede infrastructuur is de verdeeldheid van Vlaams-Brabant gebleven. De provincie is een lappendeken. Er zijn zes regio's te onderscheiden - Hageland, Haspengouw, Leuven, Pajottenland, Vilvoorde en Zenne & Zoni n - elk met hun eigen geur en kleur. Summary For her commissioning and performance of a French vernacular version of the Arabic tale of the Thousand and One Nights - recorded in one of the most vivid and sumptuous extant late thirteenth-century manuscripts - as well as for her numerous other commissions, Queen Marie of Brabant (1260-1321) was heralded as an intellectual and literary patron comparable to Alexander the Great and Charlemagne. Nevertheless, classic studies of the late medieval period understate Marie's connection to the contemporary rise of secular interests at the French court. Pleasure and Politics seeks to reshape that conversation by illustrating how the historical and material record reveals the queen's essential contributions to the burgeoning court. This emerging importance of the secular and redefinition of the sacred during the last decades of Capetian rule becomes all the more striking when juxtaposed to the pious tone of the lengthy reign of Louis IX (1214-1270), which had ended just four years before Marie's marriage to his son. That Marie often chose innovative materials and iconographies for these objects - ones that would later in the fourteenth century become the norm - signals her impact on late medieval patronage. Pleasure and Politics examines Marie's life beginning with her youth in Brabant, to her entry into Paris in 1274 accompanied by her retinue of courtiers, artists, objects, and ideas from the northern courts of Brabant, Flanders, and Artois. It continues with her elaborate coronation held for the first time in the Sainte-Chapelle the following year, her years as queen of France - often full of intrigue - and her long, productive widowhood, until her death and burial in 1321. With a focus on her Brabantine and Carolingian heritage joined to her status as French queen - often expressed through pioneering styles of heraldry - her commissions included ceremonies, marriage treaties, and intercessions, as well as a stunning collection of jewels, seals, manuscripts, reliquaries, sculpture, stained glass, and architecture that she gathered and built around her. This study also reveals Marie's regular collaboration with family, friends, and artists, in particular that with the poet Adenet le Roi, women of the French court like Blanche of France (1252-1320), and relatives from the north like Robert of Artois (1250-1302). With this broader view, it also analyzes the dynamics of Marie's patronage and its impact on contemporary and future women and men of the royal house. Court, culture, politics, and gender - these are the themes that flow throughout Marie of Brabant's life and tie together the material effects of a long, pleasure-filled existence enlivened by the politics of Europe on the cusp of a new age.
