‎BELLE LETTRE adressée par Adrien DAX (1913-1979), peintre et écrivain libertaire et surréaliste au sculpteur Jean-Claude BIRABEN (1933-2018).Adrien Dax, après avoir remercié Biraben pour sa « belle lettre en accordéon », ornée de « dessins calligraphiés » et de « fragments poétiques » qu'il a aimé « sans la moindre réserve », évoque des appels téléphoniques avec « Annie [Rowling] » à Londres et « Élisa [Breton] » à Paris, ainsi qu'une exposition pour « une galerie italo-niçoise » pour laquelle il a envoyé « une vingtaine de choses, dont huit graphismes récents en grand format, quatre impressions en relief(s) d'il y a 10 ans et divers dessins au crayon [?], à la gouache et à l'encre ». Il a reçu également "A, noir corset velu", un « bouquin monumental » d'Henri Maccheroni réalisé en collaboration avec Pierre Bourgeade : « On pense à d'étonnants paysages, à des végétations de métal. Cela tient, aussi, de la loutre et de l'orchidée. » Il s'est rendu à Paris à l'occasion du soutien en Sorbonne de la thèse de Marguerite Bonnet sur André Breton : « Il y a eu, le soir, une réunion de tous les "amis" du café. Beaucoup de froideur entre les divers groupes mais, en fin de compte, il n'y a pas eu le moindre incident. Donc tout s'est bien passé. Ni [Jean] Schuster, ni Radovan [Ivšić] n'étaient là... » Enfin il raconte un petit cambriolage réalisé dans une école par des "casseurs" : « Tout cela pour, environ, 20 à 25 francs en pièces de 0,50 !! De quoi rigoler, ces pauvres types travaillent pour rien ! » En post-scriptum il ajoute : « J'ai atrocement souffert pour écrire cette lettre. Imagine que j'ai oublié mes lunettes et que j'en ai été réduit à utiliser la loupe et la plume à dessin ! ». CINQ "IMPRESSIONS EN RELIEF(S)", dont deux en bistre, contrecollées et de formats divers, ornent les deux feuillets doubles ; elles sont toutes signées par Dax à la mine de plomb. Il s'agit, comme l'explique Dax à Biraben à la fin de son post-scriptum, de découpages de publicités qu'il a ensuite modifiées : « "L'escorte" est cette fois constituée par des publicités transformées (prélevées dans des magazines féminins). » Adrien Dax nommait « impressions en relief(s) » la transformation d'un support graphique par empreinte et/ou grattage. He also received "A, noir corset velu", a "monumental book" by Henri Maccheroni in collaboration with Pierre Bourgeade: "One thinks of astonishing landscapes, of metal vegetation. It also comes from the otter and the orchid. "He went to Paris on the occasion of the support in Sorbonne of the thesis of Marguerite Bonnet on André Breton: "There was, in the evening, a meeting of all the "friends" of the café. There was a lot of coldness between the various groups but, in the end, there was not the slightest incident. So everything went well. Neither [Jean] Schuster nor Radovan [Ivšić] was there... FIVE "PRINTINGS IN RELIEF(S)", of which two in bistre, pastedown and of various sizes, adorn the two double leaves ; they are all signed by Dax in lead pencil. They are, as Dax explains in Biraben at the end of his postscript, cut-outs of advertisements that he then modified: « "The escort" this time consists of transformed advertisements (taken from women's magazines). » Adrien Dax called "impressions in relief(s)" the transformation of a graphic support by impression and/or scraping.
