"In Russian. Short description: El Lissitzky, USSR Builds Socialism. [SSSR Stroit Sotsializm]. Moscow: IZOGIZ, 1933. XXVI, 284, [2] p., 2 sheets portr.: ill. 34?26 cm. Title page and illustration captions are in Russian, German, French and English; the text is In Russian. On pages 217-224 there is a panorama on 4 sheets (two spreads). Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs and photomontages, one of these a 4-page gatefold. Publisher's printed slip laid-in. First edition. ONE OF THE MAJOR BOOKS DESIGNED BY EL LISSITZKY. This album is one of El Lissitzky's first successful projects as a book artist, made for Izogiz. In it, he used for photomontages, both his own and other people's photographs. Many of the photographs were previously published in the first issues of the USSR in Construction magazine. The album is a kind of report on the results of the first five-year plan. The visual range is made up of numerous photomontages, the author of which was El Lissitzky. Printed in two colors (black and red, sometimes black and yellow), with short slogan texts, these photomontages make the pages of an album look like a poster.
