The first volume Art Nouveau in Belgium innovation and ideal, of the project Belgian Art Nouveau Belge is organized around the figure of Victor Horta. To be architectural work may often be the center of attention stand, it is different with his countless creations in the field of decorative arts, be it ironwork, furniture, molds in plaster or frames in wood; there is currently no scientific publication yet that provides a complete overview outlines this topic. The same applies to the realizations of Georges Hob (1854-1936), Fernand Dubois (1861-1939), Paul Du Bois (1859-1938) and L on Ledru (1855-1926). For each of these five artists, a researcher provides an accompanying scientific article with bibliographical references and illustrations often never before were published. This first volume also contains a foreword that was written by Prof. Paul Greenhalgh, director of the Sainsbury Center for Visual Arts (Norwich), as well as an introductory text by Fran oise Aubry (former curator of the Horta Museum), titled Gustave Serrurier, Victor Horta, Paul Hankar and Henry van de Velde: create a new mobilier la fin du XIX si cle?. In his relentless quest, Horta gradually strives for more purity and sobriety in the pieces of furniture he is in front of makes customers - who are usually wealthy and like what is new. To take stock of its contribution to innovation of the decorative arts from the last decade of the 19th century century, including a close collaboration with the studio by the furniture maker Henri Pelseneer (1847-1909), no one is better placed than Fran oise Aubry, an indispensable reference in the research to Belgian Art Nouveau and internationally recognized specialist of the oeuvre of Horta. The architect Georges Hob , who was a self-taught artist and a great competitor of Horta, enjoyed considerable success in his lifetime in Belgium, before falling into oblivion. The rediscovery of his work, both in architecture and decorative arts, owes a lot to Pr. Raymond Balau (ENSAV La Cambre), who is an architect as well as an urban planner, art and architecture critic and researcher in the field of architecture from the twentieth century in Belgium. As part of the Belgian Art Nouveau project Belge, Balau will focus on two exhibitions in particular in which Horta and Hob played an important role, with in particular the Belgian part of the International Exhibition for Modern Decorative Arts in Turin in 1902 and the Modern Section Decorative Arts of the Belgian Pavilion of the Internationale Exhibition of Milan in 1906. Het eerste volume Art Nouveau in Belgi vernieuwing en ideaal, van het project Belgian Art Nouveau Belge is opgezet rond de figuur van Victor Horta. Zijn architecturaal werk mag dan vaak in het centrum van de belangstelling staan, het is anders gesteld met zijn talloze creaties op gebied van decoratieve kunsten, of het nu gaat om ijzerwerk, meubelstukken, mallen in plaaster of kaders in hout; momenteel bestaat er namelijk nog geen enkele wetenschappelijke publicatie die een volledig overzicht schetst van dit onderwerp. Hetzelfde geldt voor de realisaties van Georges Hob (1854-1936), Fernand Dubois (1861-1939), Paul Du Bois (1859-1938) en L on Ledru (1855-1926). Voor elk van deze vijf kunstenaars verzorgt een vorser een bijhorend wetenschappelijk artikel met bibliografische verwijzingen en illustraties die vaak nooit eerder werden gepubliceerd. In dit eerste volume staat ook een voorwoord dat werd geschreven door Pr. Paul Greenhalgh, directeur van het Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (Norwich), alsook een introductietekst door Fran oise Aubry (voormalig conservatrice van het Horta Museum), getiteld ?Gustave Serrurier, Victor Horta, Paul Hankar en Henry van de Velde: cr er un nouveau mobilier la fin du XIXe si cle?. In zijn niet aflatende zoektocht streeft Horta geleidelijk aan naar meer puurheid en soberheid in de meubelstukken die hij voor zijn klanten maakt - die meestal gefortuneerd zijn en houden van wat nieuw is. Om de balans op te maken van zijn bijdrage tot de vernieuwing van de decoratieve kunsten vanaf het laatste decennium van de XIXe eeuw, met onder andere een nauwe samenwerking met het atelier van de meubelmaker Henri Pelseneer (1847-1909), is niemand beter geplaatst dan Fran oise Aubry, een onmisbare referentie in het onderzoek naar Belgische Art nouveau en internationaal erkende specialist van het ?uvre van Horta. De architect Georges Hob , die een autodidact was en een grote concurrent van Horta, kende tijdens zijn leven een aanzienlijk succes in Belgi , alvorens een beetje in de vergetelheid te geraken. De herontdekking van zijn werk, zowel wat betreft architectuur als decoratieve kunsten, is enorm veel verschuldigd aan Pr. Raymond Balau (ENSAV La Cambre), die zowel architect is als stedenbouwkundige, kunst- en architectuurcriticus en onderzoeker op gebied van architectuur uit de XXe eeuw in Belgi . In het kader van het project Belgian Art Nouveau Belge zal Balau zich in het bijzonder buigen over twee tentoonstellingen waar Horta en Hob een belangrijke rol in hebben gespeeld, met name het Belgische luik van de Internationale Tentoonstelling voor Moderne Decoratieve Kunsten in Turijn in 1902 en de sectie Moderne Decoratieve Kunsten van het Belgische paviljoen van de Internationale Tentoonstelling van Milaan in 1906.
