‎First printing of a remarkable paper in which Brewster investigates new optical phenomena in relation to mother-of-pearl and explains the optical properties peculiar to it, the communication of these properties to other bodies, the causes by which these phenomena are produced and explaining a new species of polarisation peculiar to mother-of-pearl.The theory presented in the paper is called ""Brewster’s theory"" r, it attributed the iridescent colors of mother-of-pearl to light diffraction from the surface structure.‎

Reliure de nacre blanche, premier plat serti d'une plaque d'argent repoussé et ajouré avec monogramme gravé "M.B.", dos de velours blanc, porte mine assorti, intérieur de soie blanche à pochette, carnet de papier avec couverture imprimée.‎

‎Ravissant accessoire féminin du 19ème siècle portant les initiales de sa propriétaire "M B" gravées sur le 1er plat de sa reliure en nacre serti d'une plaque d'argent repoussé et ajouré. Il contient un carnet de notes imprimé du titre "Souvenir" orné d'une jolie gravure représentant un couple de musiciens. Ensemble en superbe état. 1 vol. 16to (95 x 65 mm.) of [1] printed page titled Souvenir with engraving depicting a couple of musicians, [16] blank pages, [2] pages of card stock with the days of the week. White mother-of-pearl binding, front cover set with an embossed and openwork silver plate engraved with the monogram M.B., white velvet spine, matching pencil holder, white silk interior with pocket, paper notebook with printed cover. A charming 19th-century feminine accessory bearing the initials of its owner, M B, engraved on the front cover of its mother-of-pearl binding set with an embossed and openwork silver plate. It contains a printed notebook with the title Souvenir decorated with a pretty engraving depicting a couple of musicians. Set in superb condition.‎
