‎MORGAN SYDNEY OWENSON, Lady - Mlle A. SOBRY ( translator ) :‎

Reference : 40281

‎"La France en 1829 et 1830 par Lady Morgan ; traduit de l'Anglais par Mlle A. Sobry , traducteur de l'Italie de Lady Morgan, et autres ouvrages. Tome Premier ( ..Tome second ) 2 vols."‎

‎" Paris, H. Fournier Jeune, Libraire, 1830, 2 vols in-8°, (8)nn pp (with lithographic frontispiece portrait of the author, signed Delaporte sieur de Langlumé) + iii pp + 466 pp ; (4)nn pp + 440 pp + (1)(sommaire). Bound in contemporary half leather with marbled boards, smooth spine with gilt title. Fine copies. This is the second French translation of Lady Morgan's account of France. The first English edition was published in 1817 (printed by Henry Colburn), this edition was translated and published in French by Treuttel et Würtz. The 1830 edition , translated by Mlle A. Sobry , contains an interesting Post Scriptum of 28 pp ( pp 411 -438) written by Lady Morgan on the occasion of the 1830 revolution in France. She recalls that she wrote the original account of France in 1816 and she maintains now that the 1830 revolution proves her right in her - strongly criticised- view of revolutionary France. The book contains a dedication to General Lafayette whom she calls inferentially '' mon ami''. The translator Mlle A. Sobry is also well known for her translations in French of the works of Washington Irving. Book in French. Livre en français."‎
