First edition of this famous work, magnificently illustrated with 41 chromolithogr. plates showing altogether 64 fish species in vivid colours, each species drawn from nature by A.F. Lyndon, nearly all of which are pictured lying on the bank of a river or loch and often against evocative background locations. The plates are beautifully rendered in delicate chromolithography by Benjamin Fawcett, who was responsible for printing the plates in Morris's British Birds and the same author's book on the homes of the British nobility. With some xylogr. text illustrations, and very nice views with fisherman heading the chapters. Original-illustrated bindings worn.
