Troisième et dernière édition, la plus complète. Elle est illustrée par 155 planches h.-t. : 95 planches de papillons et 60 planches de chenilles. Le quatrième vole traite des chenilles européennes : Die Raupen der Schmetterlinge Europas. La reliure des volumes de texte est différente de celle des planches. Très bon exemplaire. 4 volumes in-4 de (8), CXXVIII, 385, (7) / [6], 523, (5) / (4) pp. 95 pp., 95 planches, (10) pp. / (4), 60 pp., 60 planches, (4) pp. Demi-basane verte, dos à nerfs. (Reliure de l'époque.) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Third and last edition, the most complete. Illustrated with 155 plates h.-t. 95 butterfly plates and 60 caterpillar plates. The fourth volume deals with European caterpillars: Die Raupen der Schmetterlinge Europas. The binding of the text volumes is different from that of the plates. A very good copy. -

Four volumes in four. cxxviii, 385, 523, [2] p., 113, 239 figures; 95, 60 chromolithographed plates, 4to, uniform contemporary pictorial (Jugendstil style) cloth, patterned endpapers. Library stamps, and sticker on first pastedown, a good set in its original decorative bindings.This is the final and best edition of Hofmann's work "Die Grossschmetterlinge Europas", with all the fine coloured lithographed plates, including the important fourth volume of the "Raupen" or caterpillars (in its secon edition with 50 plates), reworked by Arnold Spuler, and its "Nachtrag" (with another 10 plates). This caterpillar part is often lacking. The various families were treated by several experts, e.g. Geometridae by H. Rebel, and Tortricidae by J. von Kernel.

Tightly bound complete copy.This is the final and best edition of Hofmann's work "Die Grossschmetterlinge Europas", with all the fine coloured lithographed plates, including the important fourth volume of the "Raupen" or caterpillars (with 60 plates), reworked by Arnold Spuler, and its "Nachtrag" (with another 10 plates). Spines somewhat rubbed at joints and outer ends spine, the atlas has one joint with some more wear.This is the final and best edition of Hofmann's work "Die Grossschmetterlinge Europas", with all the fine coloured lithographed plates, reworked by Arnold Spuler. The various families were treated by several experts, e.g. Geometridae by H. Rebel, and Tortricidae by J. von Kennel. This set is complete for the butterflies.
