Le quatrième vole traite des chenilles européennes : Die Raupen der Schmetterlinge Europas. La reliure des volumes de texte est différente de celle des planches. Library stamps, and sticker on first pastedown, a good set in its original decorative bindings.This is the final and best edition of Hofmann's work "Die Grossschmetterlinge Europas", with all the fine coloured lithographed plates, including the important fourth volume of the "Raupen" or caterpillars (in its secon edition with 50 plates), reworked by Arnold Spuler, and its "Nachtrag" (with another 10 plates). This caterpillar part is often lacking. The various families were treated by several experts, e.g. Geometridae by H. Rebel, and Tortricidae by J. von Kernel.
