‎A very nice and handsome set, bright and sturdy with minimal aging to the extremities. This account is primarily involved with his 1884 exploratory mission up the Kwa, Kwango and Kasai rivers. He was the first to prove the independent nature of the Mubangi, discovered the Ruki or Black River, found himself in contact with actual cannibals, and discovered and named Grenfell Falls on the Mubangi. This is an important early account of the Congo Independent State. Johnston, gives us an in depth look at the people and the natural environs and the work is an excellent anthropological account of that fascinating region of the world with abundant photographs, drawings and maps. ‎
