A very important book on Central Asia and its mountain ranges! - This is the hardly known abridged edition of the Schlagintweits famous work "Reisen in Indien und Hochasien", often unrecognized as such because of the misleading title. An excellent abridgment, as comprehensive at the same time as the 549 pages are describing the Schlagintweits expedition. The other 90 pages describe other expeditions in that region. The plates are identical to those in the 4-volume set! - The expedition, of the 4 Schlagintweit brothers may be considered as the classic account on Central Asia. They crossed the main range of the Himalaya, visited Cashmere, Ladakh and Baltistan, crossed the Karakoram mountains as well as the high plateau of Tibet and they were the first Europeans to cross the Kunlun. Within the text (pp. 621-628) the ‘road-tables’ from 1854 upto 1857. Contemporary half cloth with gilt spine-lettering. Spine a bit sunned, spine-ends slightly rubbed and bumped.
