This first English edition is quite rare. The frontispice with two views on one plate, the Borromeo Islands and the Mont-Blanc both engraved by W. Read. Description of a tour over the Alps and through northern Italy in a series of letters to a friend starting from Geneva through Dijon, followed by Sallanches, Bonneville, Cluses and the mountains of the Jura. Geneva, Ferney, the Lake, Lausanne, Vevey. He guides us following the road to (and through) stunning Chamonix, placed in that narrow valley, fifteen miles long and half a mile wide, surrounded by pine forests, steep mountains and white glaciers. Montémont marvels at the breathtaking Mont-Blanc and its glaciers.
