‎In this issue a.o. the fascinating story of an alpine rescue by T. Kerr Ritchie under the title: ‘Guides of Chamonix’, a 4 p. history of the author's stay in Chamonix. Beside a short history of ‘The Petit Caporal, as the Genevese call Mont-Blanc’, he relates his meeting with-, and the stories by- Mr. Couttet, a Chamonix Guide. He relates from the latest daily record in ‘the Book of Gold’ a kind of a ship's log book one can find in Alpine-Huts, an accident in 1938 when three tourists, two men and one woman, all natives of Geneva, got blocked at the summit of Mont-Blanc du Tacul, and how they were rescued half-frozen and starved by four guides. Two of the guides had their feet amputated from frost-bite, but the three Geneva tourists recovered completely. ‎
