Rare, almost unknown description of a ‘Mont Blanc’ ascension. Contents : Incidents of (swiss-) history / Alpine adventure and suffering (Fall of Rossberg - Val the Bagnes - Ascent of Mont Blanc - Three months under snow in the Jura Mountains / Italian and French Alps / Modern Switzerland and the Tyrol. The author, J. D. H. Browne, of mostly known for his magnificient album ‘Ten scenes of the last ascent of Mont Blanc’ published in 1853 (Perret 735). Perret ne connait pas l’ouvrage malgré l’indication au n° 735 (the famous book of Browne: ‘Ten scenes of the last ascent of Mont-Blanc’ of 1853), ‘il fit l’ascension au Mont-Blanc en 1852’; de Beer: Travellers in Switzerland ‘1852’ p. 250: ‘Lucerne, Chamonix, Mont Blanc’; Meckly, Mont Blanc: The early years 41A (p. 124); Réan: Monte Bianco -; Waeber.
