Quite rare to have the 4 parts together in very good paper-condition (exceptional for newspaper quality). It proves once more the growing interest of the English for ‘the playground of Europe’ (Leslie Stephen) & the increasing number of English travellers to make ‘Le grand tour’, (that’s how tourism started) travelling mainly from Paris to Geneva, Chamonix, Grand St-Bernard, Martigny ... References in this story are made to Mr. Bakewell, Dr. Barry & Mr. Auldjo. The woodcut illustrations show a.o. ‘the sea of Ice, Mont-Blanc, Ascending Mont-Blanc near Mulets Rocks, Sliding down the Mont-Blanc (after Auldjo, perhabs Browne in his ‘Ten scenes of the last ascent of Mont-Blanc’ of 1853 were inspired by this Newspaper illustration). A desirable copy & early item for the Mont-Blanc collector. Priuli & Noussan, Monte Bianco 1987, p. 167-169; Perret 4780-A image disp.
