Lowell Thomas's first book was on the exploits of T.E. Lawrence in the Arab Revolt during World War I. LT and four assistants visited TE in early 1917. Lowell Thomas put together a lecture series accompanied by hand painted color slides made from the photos taken by Harry Chase who accompanied Thomas on his trip to the Middle East. The lecture series was titled "The Last Crusade: With Allenby in Palestine and Lawrence in Arabia". It opened at London's Royal Albert Hall in the fall of 1919 and played to packed houses during its long run. Thomas eventually took it on a worldwide tour and made a fortune from it. Riding on the success of the lecture tour, LT wrote a series of articles for "Asia: The American Magazine on the Orient" in 1919 and 1920. In 1924 this book was published and was to be so successful that it has been republished in numerous editions.
