Nikolai Ivanovich Kostomarov (1817-1885) was a Russian historian, publicist, poet, and social activist. He was a corresponding member of the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences and a hereditary state councilor. Bound in half-leather with a stylized cover design reminiscent of the era, with gold embossing on the spine. The original publisher's cover is preserved under the binding.
