This work was published in Russian in 1881. The book is decorated with luxurious illustrations made by famous German artists and engravers: F. Keller-Leitzinger, N. Bulman, A. Feuerbach, I. Hoffmann, F. Thiersch and others. It contains images of ancient cities views, scenes from the Greeks and Romans everyday life, temples, and works of art. There are also drawings of vases and vessels found during the excavations of Troy, Olympia and Mycenae, in Cyprus. Falke's study is a large-scale and comprehensive work on ancient history.
