L'auteur, William Alfred Rae Wood (1878-1970), était Consul de Grande-Bretagne à Chiang Mai en 1914, puis Consul-Général de 1921 à 1931. Son Histoire du Siam depuis les premiers temps jusqu'à la fin de la monarchie absolue est un classique, écrit en grande partie à partir de sources thaïlandaises. Il est mort à Chiang Mai, où il résidait, en 1970, à l'âge de 92 ans.
